Description
Alexis Leon Midford is the Marquess of Midford and head of the noble Midford family, long entrusted with protecting England through knightly tradition. As leader of the British knights, frequently linked to the Order of the Garter, he adheres to a strict chivalric code demanding defense of the vulnerable. This commitment drives his actions during the Campania disaster, where he refuses evacuation to protect passengers from reanimated corpses, declaring abandonment would betray his family's legacy.

Despite a stern military bearing and dignified presence—marked by thick eyebrows, a mustache, slicked-back flaxen hair, and formal attire—Alexis harbors a warm, affable nature. He openly expresses affection, contrasting his more reserved wife, Francis Midford. He dotes on his children, Elizabeth and Edward, sharing Elizabeth's fondness for "cute" things and often embracing family publicly, sometimes to Francis's chagrin. His marriage to Francis originated from a fencing tournament hosted by Queen Victoria, where she defeated him; their bond remains deeply affectionate.

In his youth, Alexis attended Weston College, joining the Green Lion dormitory (also called Jade Lion) and serving as junior to Vincent Phantomhive under prefect Diederich. This time forged enduring bonds with Vincent, whom he deeply respected, and cemented his loyalty to the Phantomhive family. As Ciel Phantomhive's uncle by marriage, Alexis acts as guardian to the Phantomhive household, attending Ciel's investiture as Earl and later supporting him during crises.

His protective role intensifies during the Luxury Liner Arc, where he invites Ciel aboard the Campania. When reanimated corpses overrun the ship, he coordinates the defense of survivors and lifeboat deployment, prioritizing civilian safety over his own escape. Later, during the Public School Arc, he revisits Weston College, recounting the "Miracle of Sapphires"—a cricket victory led by Vincent—and emotionally cheers Ciel's replication of this feat.

In the Blue Memory and Blue Revenge Arcs, Alexis confronts profound family turmoil. Arriving at Phantomhive Manor following reports of criminal activity, he discovers Ciel's deception regarding his identity and contract with the demon Sebastian. Though devastated, he ensures Elizabeth's safety and later accepts Ciel's explanation of the manor's destruction and his demonic pact.

A master fencer possessing near-superhuman skill, Alexis employs his abilities in service to the crown and family. His background, values, and actions consistently reflect his dual dedication to national duty and deep familial bonds, particularly his protective instincts toward Elizabeth and Ciel.
