Description
Araragi Koyomi is a third-year high school student whose life irrevocably changed after a supernatural spring break encounter. Previously antisocial, he believed friendships would "lower his integrity as a human," a conviction rooted in past trauma involving Sodachi Oikura and classroom manipulation of truth. His perspective fractured upon meeting Tsubasa Hanekawa, who persistently breached his emotional barriers.

During spring break, he encountered the severely weakened vampire Kiss-Shot Acerola-Orion Heart-Under-Blade. Initially fleeing her demand for his blood, he ultimately sacrificed himself after hearing her desperate pleas for life. This act transformed him into her vampire thrall, granting regenerative abilities, enhanced strength, and other vampiric traits while binding Kiss-Shot to him in a weakened, childlike form. To regain his humanity, he was tasked with retrieving her severed limbs from three hunters.

In Kizumonogatari Part 2: Nekketsu, his mission to retrieve Kiss-Shot's limbs intensifies his internal conflict between humanity and monstrosity. His battle against the first hunter, Dramaturgy, reveals his regenerative powers but also marks an initial step away from humanity as he callously severs ties with Hanekawa. During the confrontation with the half-vampire Episode, Hanekawa sustains mortal wounds. Araragi's ensuing rage nearly drives him to kill Episode, an act Oshino Meme warns would permanently forfeit his humanity. To save Hanekawa, Araragi uses his own vampiric blood, further entrenching his supernatural nature.

Retrieving the second limb allows Kiss-Shot to mature into a young adult, escalating her power and Araragi's dependence on his vampiric abilities. Before facing the final hunter, Guillotine Cutter, Araragi pleads with Hanekawa to leave for her safety. She complies but leaves her panties as a symbolic promise of reunion. When Guillotine Cutter kidnaps Hanekawa regardless, Oshino advises Araragi to "forget about being human again" to rescue her. Embracing this, Araragi unleashes a previously unseen power, morphing his arms into tree roots to defeat Guillotine Cutter. This act signifies his acceptance of monstrosity to protect his connection to humanity, represented by Hanekawa.

Throughout these events, his complex altruism surfaces—he helps others primarily when they display vulnerability, driven by a desire for validation as a savior stemming from deep-seated self-loathing. His relationship with Hanekawa evolves significantly, moving from attempted isolation to a genuine, albeit fraught, friendship central to his struggle. Visually, his black hair covers his right eye in this prequel, contrasting his later appearance, and his physical form remains athletic due to residual vampirism.
