Description
Queen Etrange rules the diamond-rich island nation of Malynera and is mother to its current king, Patalliro VIII. Chronic poor health confines her to a Swiss sanatorium, away from her son's court. She was previously married to Malynera's late king, a man thirty years her senior.

Her cousin Larken kidnapped her as part of a plot to seize Malynera. During her rescue by Major Bancoran, Larken tried to shoot the Major during a sword fight. To save Bancoran, Etrange intervened and killed Larken herself.

This act triggered an immediate and obsessive romantic fixation on Bancoran within Etrange. In one incident, she drugged him with an aphrodisiac intended to make her appear as a young, attractive boy to him; this attempt was halted before completion. Her obsession also fueled hostility towards Bancoran's lover, Maraich. Etrange verbally attacked Maraich, invoking his traumatic rape by Bancoran's uncle, Keen, aiming to destroy his relationship with Bancoran.

Visually, Etrange is defined by her purple hair and purple eyes, a design choice aligning with the series' "Graceful Ladies Like Purple" trope, symbolizing her royal status and identity as a "Proper Lady." Her narrative incorporates elements of tragedy and manipulation, stemming from her health-imposed isolation and complex emotional drives.
