Baraz hails from Arche Valley as a descendant of Ghris, who sealed the destructive Mythical Pokémon Hoopa within the Prison Bottle a century prior to protect Dahara City. Growing up in the valley with his younger sister Meray, Baraz shared his home with Hoopa, confined to its smaller form after the sealing. As a child, Baraz bore a serious and responsible demeanor, frequently targeted by the pranks of Meray and Hoopa. He trained to become one with nature, participating in shared escapades like an attempt to end a drought where Hoopa mistakenly summoned candy instead of rain, and accidentally breaking a treasured ivory statue belonging to a local shopkeeper, Mira. These experiences forged inseparable bonds between Baraz, Meray, and Hoopa, reinforced by their great-grandfather Ghris explicitly recognizing Hoopa as family. As an adult, Baraz shouldered the duty of locating the original Prison Bottle to safeguard Hoopa and honor his family's legacy. His quest led him into desert depths near Dahara City. He discovered the bottle within a cave, utilizing his Solrock's Flash to pierce the darkness. Upon touching the Prison Bottle, Baraz became possessed by the malevolent energy sealed within – a manifestation of Hoopa's past rage and darkness. Under this influence, he flew to Dahara City on his Braviary and forcibly released the dark energy onto Hoopa, triggering its transformation into the destructive Hoopa Unbound. Freed from possession after Meray resealed the initial dark energy surge, Baraz revealed Hoopa's past rampage and Ghris's role in stopping it, declaring his intent to return the bottle to Arche Valley for safekeeping. When Team Rocket destroyed the Prison Bottle, unleashing Hoopa's dark energy as a separate malevolent entity ("the Shadow"), Baraz focused on creating a new vessel. Knowing Ghris's ancient method required harnessing the elemental forces of Fire, Water, and Earth, he orchestrated their gathering at Dahara Tower using Serena's Braixen, Ash's Frogadier, and a wild Hippopotas. Amidst the chaos caused by the Shadow and the numerous Legendary Pokémon it summoned, Baraz demonstrated leadership and resolve directing the bottle's recreation within the tower. During the climactic confrontation, after the new bottle was completed but dropped, Baraz witnessed Ash become possessed upon catching it, though Hoopa ultimately purified the Shadow. Facing a collapsing space-time rift from the excessive legendary summons, Baraz prioritized the safety of Meray and others, ensuring their escape through Hoopa's rings. He stayed behind with Hoopa, resolved to remain when Hoopa initially couldn't pass through its own rings. Arceus's intervention temporarily halted the distortion, providing a final chance; recalling Ghris's words about family, Hoopa pulled Baraz to safety through a ring. Afterwards, Baraz, Meray, and Hoopa remained united, with Hoopa vowing to rebuild Dahara Tower. Baraz commands a Braviary for aerial travel and combat, though it was swiftly defeated by the Shadow's Dark Pulse. He utilizes a Solrock primarily for illumination, notably employing its Flash to locate the original Prison Bottle in the dark cave and to provide light within Dahara Tower during the new bottle's creation. He wears a distinctive cross-shaped necklace, an heirloom from Ghris resembling Arceus's wheel, symbolizing his lineage and their ancestral connection to Arceus, the source of Ghris's power to create the original Prison Bottle.
