Description
As Miyagi Prefecture's designated misaki (familiar), Takesuzume functions as a divine messenger tasked with selecting and empowering "Magica" mediums to combat impurity manifestations called Magatsuhi. This avian-featured entity commands a stern and demanding presence, frequently barking reprimands at her assigned magical girl, Naruko Aoba, for perceived laziness or lapses in focus—even openly criticizing her during combat or monster chases. Takesuzume remains invisible to ordinary humans, though her vocalizations become indirectly noticeable when Naruko repeats them aloud, such as an echoed insult that once led to Naruko's detention.

Their partnership began unexpectedly in rural rice paddies where Naruko, mistaking Takesuzume for a pest, triggered an immediate bestowal of magical abilities through direct contact—a transformation granted without Naruko's prior consent or understanding of the responsibilities. As guide, Takesuzume provides the magical weapon "Tanikaze," a kokeshi-shaped heavy mace used by Naruko to strike and purify Magatsuhi, overseen closely by the familiar during battles against Miyagi's threats. Takesuzume relentlessly pushes Naruko to embrace her Magica duties, countering protests about self-consciousness over magical attire or battle-readiness by emphasizing the critical need to protect their shared homeland.
