TV-Series
Description
Kazunari Usa, a tall high school freshman with shaggy brown hair and blue eyes, moves into Kawai Complex after his parents relocate for work, fulfilling his wish for independence. His unconventional parents' social circles led him to attract eccentric individuals during middle school, earning him the nickname "freak show ringmaster" and making those years a disaster.

He typically wears his school uniform: a yellow vest over a white button-up shirt, an orange tie, and blue dress pants. For his part-time job at Kawaji House, he dons traditional Japanese attire, favoring casual or lounge wear off-duty.

His personality blends tolerance, kindness, and self-sacrificial tendencies, often prioritizing others. Initially an "Extreme Doormat," especially at work, he evolves to assert boundaries while retaining his core decency. He displays strong leadership, snarky humor as a coping mechanism around eccentric peers, and a knack for attracting peculiar people. He enjoys playing "Demon Hunter," fears makeup, and loves hamburger steak with cheese.

Relationships drive his development. His initial romantic interest in senior and fellow resident Ritsu Kawai motivates his stay at Kawai Complex. Their bond grows through shared literary interests and walks home, leading to a confession and dating relationship, though restricted by dorm rules. Classmate Hayashi harbors unrequited feelings from middle school, later setting them aside to support his relationship with Ritsu. He forms a gaming friendship with the younger Shiina, occasionally causing misunderstandings with Ritsu. Among dorm residents, he navigates roommate Shirosaki’s perverse tendencies, Mayumi’s teasing about his romance, and Sayaka’s troublemaking.

Across the series, he evolves from a bewildered newcomer to a resilient figure unfazed by the dorm’s eccentricities. Key developments include learning to balance persistence with respecting Ritsu’s boundaries after initial missteps and shifting from self-sacrifice to healthier assertiveness. Later manga arcs see his relationship with Ritsu deepen as Hayashi reconciles her feelings to aid their romance. The OVA highlights Hayashi’s temporary resurgence of interest during a festival after misunderstanding Ritsu and Usa’s relationship status.
