Description
Enjin Hiizumi first appears claiming descent from Enyou Hiizumi, driven by vengeance for his ancestor's sacrifice. His goal is to destroy Sakurashinmachi's barrier and trigger the Nanagou pillars' bloom, merging the human and yokai realms with catastrophic results. However, this lineage proves fabricated; records unearthed during the Nanagou excavation, including Enyou's own "Hiizumi Branch Family Dissolution" document, confirm no such descendant exists.
Enjin's true nature is revealed as non-living: a pair of glasses instilled with a soul and false memories by Oushyuu Hiizumi. This sentient artifact possesses the body of Gin Nanami, Ao Nanami's older brother, to pursue its objectives. Enjin physically mirrors Gin—179 cm tall with long blue hair and cat ear-like antennae—but is distinguished by the glasses and a long black coat featuring white fur accents.
Despite controlling Gin's body for roughly two years, Gin's soul persists internally, creating conflict. Gin's lingering consciousness surfaces intermittently, manifesting his habits and occasionally impeding Enjin's actions. Enjin exploits this connection strategically, revealing Gin's presence to Ao, Akina Hiizumi, and Hime Yarizakura to provoke emotional distress and hesitation among them.
His primary ability is "Dropping" (堕とす, Otosu), inherited from Enyou Hiizumi's line, enabling him to summon entities or souls from the Other World into the human realm. This power opposes the "Tuning" (調律, Chūningu) ability of the main Hiizumi family. Enjin also claims Tuning capability, accessed through his possession of Gin Nanami—a Satori—which grants him Satori powers. Additionally, through conflicts like those with Shidare Morioka, he acquires knowledge of Onmyōdō (陰陽道), a dimensional science developed by the Senate.
Acting with malice and without scruples, aided by the loyal Eiji Shinosuka, Enjin's core motivation stems from fulfilling Oushyuu Hiizumi's manipulation and avenging the perceived injustice against Enyou. His plans culminate in confrontations where Akina Hiizumi, transformed into a shinigami, ultimately exposes and defeats him, fully revealing his nature as an artifact.
