Description
Mariabelle, also called Mari, is an immortal human assistant to Yūhi Shinatsuhiko, the district mayor and guardian deity of Sakurashinmachi. Her full name is Victor Mariabelle Frankenstein. She is the daughter of V Calvani F and the ancestor of Juri F and Lila F, though she dislikes being called "grandma" by them or their father.
Originating from a plague-stricken village where she was the first infected, her father employed forbidden methods to resurrect her as an artificial human or undead being. This process used her body to develop an antibody vaccine that saved the villagers, including her younger brother, but granted her immortality. Initially opposed to eternal life, a sentiment shared by her father and brother, they traveled to Japan seeking a Hiizumi Clan member to "tune" her and end her immortality. Her perspective shifted after meeting Yūhi Shinatsuhiko. During their journey, Yūhi and his sister Yae saved Mariabelle and her father from pursuers. Following a confrontation where Akane kidnapped Mariabelle, Yūhi proposed a pact: her life in exchange for his guardianship. She accepted, restoring Yūhi's god powers and forming a permanent contract sustaining her immortality.
Physically, Mariabelle is blonde, blue-eyed, and slender at 168 cm tall. Her daily attire is typically her old nun uniform, a remnant of her past. She frequently cosplays, often carrying spare costumes due to Yūhi's hobbies; initially reluctant, she later embraced the activity herself.
Her personality is calm, quiet, and collected, rarely showing overt expressions. She occasionally smiles privately, like when watching Yūhi sleep or interacting with young boys reminiscent of her brother. Mornings find her grumpy without a Japanese-style breakfast. Her bond with Yūhi is multilayered, showing devotion and silent affection. However, she disapproves of his harassment of women, physically intervening to drag him home or scold him. This reflects her complex history with patriarchal authority under her father and brother, and her struggle to balance servitude with personal will. Despite loyalty, she maintains independent ethics, criticizing Yūhi's behavior or advocating mercy for others.
Mariabelle possesses enhanced strength, capable of uprooting large trees. Her immortality, sustained by the contract with Yūhi, allows recovery from fatal injuries. She smokes medicinal cigarettes for throat irritation. Historically, she passed down a nurse outfit (originally Akane's) to her descendants, who became youkai doctors in Sakurashinmachi. She also gifted her nun uniform to the admiring Yae.
Her development includes adapting to centuries of life, witnessing societal change, and forming mutual respect with Hiizumi Life Counselling Office members. The "Walking Pilgrimage" arc details her early interactions with Yūhi and Yae and her integration into Sakurashinmachi's community.
