Description
Yaiba Byakuyaō, the Midnight Sun King, rules Atlantia as the white Sword Eyes of Darkness. Born during the midnight sun holiday, he ascended the throne after his father Atlaios's death. Yaiba initially appears a cruel, power-driven monarch who believes light must obey darkness and seeks to surpass the gods to rule the world. Yet his harsh actions conceal a deeper motive: saving humanity from divine destruction. A childhood trip to a sacred mountain with his father and regent Garudos exposed him to a magic square revealing darkness and a distant light. This vision, coupled with his father's subsequent fatal illness, haunted him. Dreams and encounters with past Sword Eyes later revealed spirits punished for rebellion were sealed into cards for eternal battle, and that God planned the world's destruction. These revelations forged his secret mission.

His early reign focused on consolidating power and pursuing the 12 Sword Eyes and Sword Braves. He defeated his younger brother Tsurugi in their initial clashes, expressing disappointment in Tsurugi's weakness and confiscating his Sword Brave. Yaiba dispatched Stinger armies across Legendia, ostensibly to maintain order and prevent uprisings by the Sword Eyes of Light. He forcibly recruited other Sword Eyes of Darkness, defeating the alchemist Rirove in battle to secure his allegiance. His interest in Kizakura, the yellow Sword Eyes of Light, centered on a jewel from her staff linked to God; he proposed marriage to secure a special heir, though this plan failed.

As events unfolded, Yaiba's hidden altruism surfaced. He oversaw the construction of a colossal ark to evacuate humanity before God's planned destruction. When Tsurugi returned as a dual Sword Eyes of Light and Darkness, Yaiba gradually acknowledged his growth, battling him to test his resolve before revealing the ark and his visions of the world's end. Learning Garudos murdered their father, Yaiba permitted Tsurugi to battle Garudos for judgment. Garudos's subsequent betrayal, stealing the Sword of Judgment and manipulating public opinion against Yaiba, led to their direct confrontation. Yaiba suffered his first defeat in this battle. He then ceded his Sword Brave to Tsurugi after losing a second duel to decide who would face Garudos. In the finale, Yaiba aided Tsurugi's final battle by summoning spirits to halt God's "Iron Hammer," then used the Sword of Judgment to kill God and forge a new world. The epilogue showed him engaged in a friendly battle with Tsurugi, symbolizing their reconciliation.

Yaiba wielded a white Battle Spirits deck focused on Dark spirits and Rush tactics, featuring cards like The DarkKingMachineBeast Darkness-Griffon and The BlackHeavenFox Nega-Ninetail. His battle record included victories over Rirove, Kizakura, and Justice Tachibana, while critical losses to Garudos and Tsurugi marked his evolution from a solitary ruler to a collaborative savior.
