TV-Series
Description
Haqua Estoc is a character who appears as the white Sword Eyes of Light. He is a petite young boy with a light peach skin tone and sharp, rectangular pale blue eyes. His hair is platinum-blond, cut with short, choppy sides and a three-parted fringe, and he has thin eyebrows. Haqua typically wears an azure and white robe with golden trim, a black collar, and black sleeves with golden lining. Completing his outfit are a brown scarf, a brown buckled belt, and brown boots. His most distinctive feature is his large, round magenta eyeglasses, which are later revealed to be a special seal used to hide his identity as a Sword Eyes.
He originates from the ice continent of Xamuler and travels to Atlantia to sell its specialty, never-melting ice. At the beginning of his story, Haqua has a cool and calm personality but is quite pessimistic. He believes that it is impossible to change anything about the world and actively tries to discourage the other Sword Eyes of Light from opposing the main antagonist, Yaiba.
Haqua is the successor to Vargas Randall, the previous white Sword Eyes of Light. This lineage allows him access to a castle in Xamuler where a Sword Brave is hidden, though he is initially haunted by a terrifying encounter with what he believed was a ghost inside. After being persuaded by fellow Sword Eyes member Suou Rakels to return, it is revealed that his glasses were hiding a Sword Eye, confirming his status. His own Sword Brave is stolen by the character Rebel, and it is Kizakura Kukuri who battles and reclaims it for him after Haqua feigns an illness due to a lack of confidence.
His involvement in the conflict deepens through a growing bond with Kizakura. When she becomes trapped under Xamuler ice, he uses a special golden kettle to melt it and save her. He then battles Gordy Dain in her place, winning and surprising everyone with an unexpected level of intensity and passion. Later, when the Sword Eyes of Light are captured by Yaiba, Haqua battles for Kizakura's freedom, motivated by his feelings for her. He wins the fight, but he and the young boy Sora remain prisoners. His jealousy is later shown when Kizakura promises to give Sora sweets after he recovers from an illness.
Haqua is briefly placed under Yaiba's control and ordered to capture Suou, but the character Amarello Berge challenges him to a battle and uses special powers to break the influence over him. Seeking information about the character Garudos Randall, Haqua and Gordy Dain cross-dress to infiltrate the palace. Their investigation leads them to discover an incriminating video, which Haqua later uses to confront Garudos directly.
As a fighter, Haqua prefers using a white charge deck. His notable cards include the spirit The Sacred Gaebolg, the spirit The SpearLightMachineDeity Kugel-Horn, and the brave The SkyLightSword Crown-Solar, which is also his designated Sword Brave. He uses magic cards such as Regain, Ice Age Shield, and Perfect Repair. His documented battle record includes victories over Gordy and Brau Balm, a loss to Amarello while under Yaiba's control, and an unresolved battle against Yaiba himself during a ritual to summon the Sword of Judgment. In the final battle against Garudos, Haqua lends his key card, The Sacred Gaebolg, to the protagonist Tsurugi Tatewaki and focuses on diverting enemy Stinger units away from the arks.
In the manga continuity, Haqua appears later in the story, trying to sell Tsurugi a new deck after noticing his droid is not functioning. He conceals his own Sword Eyes status at this time. Captured by Yaiba before the final battle, he is released afterward and, as compensation, accepts a position as a royal purveyor. Following the resolution of the main conflict in the anime, Haqua returns to his mercantile life, once again selling goods.
