Description
Kanzo Hattori, known as Hattori-kun, is an 11-year-old ninja from the Iga Clan, standing roughly 140 cm tall. He dons signature blue hooded ninja robes featuring yellow cross-shaped sleeves, blue pants, a red ribbon belt, and sandals, with spiral markings on his cheeks and a steel sword carried on his back. After leaving his Iga mountain home for training, he resides with the Mitsuba family in Tokyo, becoming a foster brother to Kenichi Mitsuba while exchanging letters and gifts with his biological parents. His immediate family includes his younger brother Shinzo Hattori, whom he mentors despite frequent arguments, and his ninja dog Shishimaru, whose laziness sometimes annoys him.

He exhibits a disciplined, leadership-focused personality, adhering strictly to ninja principles and expecting others to meet his standards. He consistently aids Kenichi with personal and academic challenges, demonstrating care, though this leads to clashes when Kenichi ignores advice on confidence or studies. He harbors a shy affection for fellow ninja Tsubame, often keeping their mutual attraction private. Despite his competence, he displays impulsiveness, acting without forethought or creating extreme theories. He holds notable fears, including ranidaphobia (fear of frogs), which impairs his abilities in frog-related situations, and discomfort with train travel; he also wet the bed as a younger child.

His abilities encompass mastery of numerous ninja techniques: Hypnotism using a watch, Walking on Walls or Water (the latter requiring special wooden slippers), the Flying Squirrel Technique for gliding with a duvet, creating Smokescreens for confusion, Disguise, Personality Changing via a marked mirror, and Speed Writing. He wields shurikens and a sword proficiently, excelling in dueling—evidenced by repeated victories over his Koga rival Kemumaki. He also displays engineering skills, such as repairing bicycles or weapons, and basic cooking.

In the crossover film "Ninja Hattori-kun + Perman: ESP Wars," he participates in a conflict involving psychic children abducted by the antagonist Psychoman. He responds to Shinzo's distress whistle, teams with Tsubame for rescue operations, and later collaborates with the Perman heroes. During the New York-based final battle, he infiltrates Psychoman's headquarters, survives an attack from a Statue of Liberty-shaped weapon, and assists in subduing Psychoman and his henchman Geller. His catchphrases include "Ding Ding!" and "Mushkil waqt, commando sakht!" (Hindi for "Tough times, commando shines!"), often appending "degozaru" or "nin nin" to sentences.

His development across media shows a consistent dedication to protecting others, balancing traditional ninja duties with modern challenges while navigating interpersonal dynamics within his biological and foster families.
