Description
Ichirou Satou faced severe bullying in middle school after adopting the "Maryuin Koga" persona and engaging in fantasy role-play, forcing a school transfer where he concealed his past to present as ordinary. His resolve wavered upon encountering Ryouko Satou, who exhibited similar behaviors—wearing costumes and claiming interdimensional research—triggering shame and rejection as she mirrored his traumatic history. Witnessing Ryouko endure bullying like his own past compelled him to reluctantly accept a teacher’s request to support her. To connect with Ryouko and guide her toward reality, Ichirou resurrected his Maryuin Koga identity, confronting suppressed memories and sparking internal conflict between his craving for normalcy and the need to aid her.
Mentors advised empathy and patience with Ryouko, but progress shattered when classmate Yumina Ōshima uncovered his chuunibyou history. Ōshima blackmailed him into cutting ties with Ryouko under threat of exposure. Ichirou’s withdrawal bred self-loathing and regret, causing Ryouko to retreat deeper into fantasy. Recognizing his error, Ichirou defied the blackmail, publicly reclaimed his Maryuin Koga identity, apologized to Ryouko, and vowed to face reality alongside her.
Post-crisis, Ichirou integrated his past fantasies without letting them dominate him. He sustained support for Ryouko’s gradual reintegration into daily life, acknowledging their shared struggles. His sister bolstered him morally and challenged their parents’ dismissive past attitude toward his earlier difficulties.
