Nanami Kanou is a 15-year-old female student at Eastern Private Defense Academy with orange or brown hair often in pigtails and ochre-colored eyes. She stands 1.56 meters tall with blood type O. Strained bonds with her mother and older sister, particularly during summer vacations, create a family environment where she frequently feels neglected or like an outsider, fueling her dislike of summer breaks.

Her distinct personal motivation is an aspiration to become a pop idol, a dream persisting despite audience reactions suggesting her singing abilities may fall short of professional standards. This ambition exists separately from her military academy involvement. As a member of Class 2, she becomes involved in defending the Regeneratable Artificial Nerve (RAN) experiment when Trident, a French private military company, attacks the academy on August 1, 2026. The assault kills multiple students and instructors, forcing survivors like Nanami to flee while falsely accused of terrorism, forming the Basket Army.

In combat, she wields a Steyr TMP machine pistol. During a confrontation against the Wolverines at an abandoned building, she ambushes Wolverine forces entering through a doorway. When one member expresses confusion at encountering a school-uniformed girl in the combat zone, she responds by firing her weapon, striking Danny in the chest. This action immediately precedes her own demise, as Erica Mason subsequently shoots and kills her using a Valmet M76 rifle.
