TV-Series
Description
Saitou Dousan climbed from merchant origins to become the daimyo of Mino Province, forging his path through shrewd strategy and forceful methods that earned him the name "Viper of Mino." He transformed Mino into a thriving hub of free trade, championing merchant interests and economic prosperity. Physically, he presented the image of an aged man sporting a bald head, greying eyebrows, and a mustache, typically seen in traditional Japanese attire or battle armor. Despite his stern demeanor and fearsome reputation, a hidden kindness and profound loyalty lay beneath, reserved for those he cherished.

His personality blended sharp political cunning with a capacity for gentleness, particularly directed toward Oda Nobuna, whom he viewed as a daughter after her father's passing. This deep bond led him to name Nobuna his heir, bypassing his biological son Saitou Yoshitatsu, and form a strategic alliance with the Oda clan. Dousan initially prepared for war against the Oda but abandoned these plans upon recognizing Nobuna's ambition to unify Japan and Yoshiharu Sagara's knowledge of future events. This decision fueled Yoshitatsu's rebellion, during which Dousan resolved to fight to the death until Sagara intervened, enabling his escape by river; Nobuna's reinforcements arrived subsequently.

Later, Dousan contracted a fatal illness but refused to avoid conflict when Takeda forces threatened Mino. He successfully repelled the invasion with unexpected aid from Yoshitatsu, reconciling with his son after their biological relationship was confirmed by their shared affliction. In his final moments, he expressed a wish to be buried beside Yoshitatsu, a request fulfilled by the repentant sniper Sugitani Zenjuurou. His death solidified Nobuna's resolve to honor his legacy.

Throughout the series, Dousan served as a steadfast mentor, guiding both Nobuna and Sagara. His complex relationship with Yoshitatsu evolved from conflict to redemption, and his pragmatic yet compassionate leadership profoundly shaped Mino's political landscape.
