Description
Divine Beatrix III holds supreme authority within the Orlesian Chantry during the animated feature's events. Her decades-long reign establishes her as a pivotal figure in both spiritual and political matters, maintaining a strategic alliance with the Orlesian Empire. She leverages her friendship with Emperor Florian to exert influence, notably pressuring Kirkwall's templars against Viscount Perrin Threnhold amid trade conflicts.
In 9:22 Dragon, Beatrix confronts a conspiracy orchestrated by Grand Cleric Callista, Knight-Commander Martel, and blood mage Frenic. Their plot aims to assassinate her during the Chantry’s decennial gathering by deploying dragons controlled through blood magic, simultaneously eliminating rival Grand Clerics to secure Callista’s ascension. Beatrix survives due to the intervention of Seeker Cassandra Pentaghast and mage Regalyan D’Marcall, who expose and dismantle the scheme.
Following the crisis, Beatrix publicly lauds Cassandra and Regalyan. She bestows upon Cassandra the titles "Hero of Orlais" and "Right Hand of the Divine," while appointing Regalyan as Senior Enchanter of Val Royeaux’s Circle. Privately, Beatrix later meets Cassandra in the Grand Cathedral, cautioning that the attack heralds an approaching storm. During this encounter, she entrusts Cassandra with a tome bearing the Seekers of Truth insignia—a holy writ later revealed to authorize restoring the Inquisition.
Beatrix’s health deteriorates markedly in her final years. By 9:33 Dragon, she appears frail, requiring attendants to carry her to the Sunburst Throne during ceremonies and often succumbing to sleep mid-proceedings. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 9:34 Dragon, she nominates Revered Mother Dorothea as her successor shortly before her death. Dorothea ultimately assumes the mantle of Divine as Justinia V.
