Description
Seiya Ichijou rose from cleaning toilets at a Teiai Corporation underground casino to become its manager. He endured significant mistreatment early on, including being forced by Kazutaka Hyōdō to drink wine from a foot-soaking basin. This period forged his patient and hardworking nature, driven by the belief that enduring hardship would eventually grant him control over Teiai's finances and assets, positioning him as Yoshihiro Kurosaki's right-hand man after Kurosaki succeeded Hyōdō.

As casino manager, Ichijou oversaw operations with a detached analytical approach. His extensive observation developed a reputation for accurately gauging players' emotions, particularly desperation and determination. He viewed most people with disdain, considering them inferior, a perspective rooted in his own lack of higher education and elitist mindset. This superiority complex coexisted with deep-seated insecurity, especially around former classmates who appeared more successful. His aspirations for wealth and status within Teiai fueled his meticulous nature, leaving no room for error.

Ichijou created "The Bog," a heavily rigged pachinko machine designed to prevent jackpots. Its mechanisms made winning nearly impossible, cementing his Teiai reputation. He secretly manipulated the machine to ensure a win for Yukio Tonegawa during a visit, aiming to curry favor. Unbeknownst to Ichijou, Tonegawa saw through the intervention but chose not to comment.

His conflict with Kaiji Itō began when Kaiji studied The Bog for an exploit. After catching Kaiji attempting sabotage, Ichijou punished him by piercing his fingernails with a specialized device. Despite Ichijou's confidence in The Bog's invincibility, Kaiji later returned with allies and defeated the machine. Hyōdō intervened during the match, forcing Ichijou to continue the gamble even after cheating suspicions arose. Following Kaiji's victory, Hyōdō sentenced Ichijou to 1,050 years in an underground labor camp to repay the 700 million yen loss. As he was taken away, Kaiji encouraged him to return for a rematch.

A prequel spinoff manga, *Jōkyō Seikatsuroku Ichijō*, explores his youth prior to joining Teiai, detailing the formative experiences that influenced his relentless ambition and complex personality.
