TV-Series
Description
Arata Yakushiji enters the series as the reigning Battle Spirits champion. He sports spiked brown hair marked by an x-shaped scar on his forehead, typically dressed in an orange jacket over a white shirt, brown gloves, and blue jeans. His personality radiates extreme passion and a drive to inspire other card battlers, though he also exhibits notable perverted tendencies, especially in his persistent romantic pursuit of Mika Kisaragi. He maintains an intense rivalry with European battler Antony Starck, having defeated him in a special pre-series match which Arata credits to his strong spirit and bond with his cards. Despite his championship status, Arata has never won a battle against Mika, believing victory would compel her to date him.
His backstory includes childhood first love Izumi Rollerthrough Junko. She reappears during a Japanese national tournament intending to win and confess to him, but her history of rapidly shifting romantic interests had previously broken his heart, and her return disturbs him. After losing the tournament, she refrains from confessing and instead develops feelings for Galaxy Watanabe.
While in Italy, Arata acquires the X-rare card "The SwordHero Sieg-Susano-Fried" from a vending machine. He encounters Hajime Hinobori and his group there, allowing Kimari Tatsumi to battle him. Utilizing this new card alongside his existing level 4 spirit, Arata defeats Kimari decisively. Later, following the Hero Championship, he battles the winner, Tegamaru Tanashi. Losing this match costs Arata his champion title, after which he delivers a speech emphasizing that Battle Spirits should remain enjoyable regardless of victory or defeat.
The epilogue reveals Arata maintained the secret identity "Afrone." After Hajime defeats Tegamaru, Arata acknowledges Hajime as a true hero and challenges him to a battle, though the outcome remains undecided.
Arata utilizes a red deck specializing in burst cards. His key spirits are "The DragonHero Sieg-Yamato-Fried" and "The SwordHero Sieg-Susano-Fried," making him the only character confirmed to wield two level 4 spirits simultaneously. His deck also features spirits like "Kagutsuchidragoon" and "Ryzard," braves such as "The GunDragon Phoenix-Cannon," nexus cards like "The Thousand Knowledge Canyon," and various burst magics including "Double Blaster" and "Blaze Slash."
His documented battle record includes victories against Hajime (Episode 1), Antony (Episode 4), Kimari (Episode 32), and Mahiru Hinobori (Episode 35). His loss to Tegamaru occurs in Episode 48, and his final battle against Hajime in Episode 50 ends without a confirmed result.
