Kenren Taishou, a General formerly of Heaven's Eastern Army demoted to the Western Army for misconduct with a superior officer's wife, blended irreverence with tactical brilliance. He cultivated an image as a "lawless man," appearing lazy while indulging in alcohol, women, and luxury goods from the lower world. This facade veiled sharp strategic intelligence and formidable combat prowess; rumors claimed he surpassed even War Prince Nataku in strength. Though his laid-back demeanor led many in Heaven to underestimate him, he commanded fierce loyalty from subordinates and maintained a tidy personal space, contrasting sharply with Tenpou Gensui's messiness. Relationships profoundly shaped his actions. After his transfer, he forged a deep bond with his direct superior, Field Marshal Tenpou Gensui. Their dynamic included shared distrust of Heaven's leadership, collaborative investigations into military corruption, and a deliberately scandalous claim of being married—partly to obscure their activities, partly for amusement. Kenren often provided practical support, managing daily tasks for Tenpou. He also developed a protective, brotherly connection to Son Goku, a golden-eyed heretic child under Konzen Douji's care. Discovering Goku wandering the palace grounds, Kenren shielded him from hostile servants by falsely declaring the boy his illegitimate son and insisting Goku call him "Ken-niichan" (Ken big brother). He encouraged Goku's mischief to disrupt Heaven's monotony and later defended him fiercely. His defiance of Heaven escalated during critical events. Kenren objected when Heaven ordered the injured Nataku back into battle, resulting in a severe beating and imprisonment. After Goku's diadem shattered during the Jade Emperor's birthday festival, unleashing his destructive Seiten Taisei form, Kenren joined Tenpou and Konzen in protecting the unconscious boy from Heavenly forces. Declared traitors, they fortified Tenpou's study and took the Dragon King Goujun hostage to negotiate exile to the lower world. During their escape attempt, Kenren and Tenpou fought beside their loyal Western Army First Unit soldiers, who disregarded orders to stand down, enabling the group's flight. Kenren's final act in Heaven involved fortifying defenses and strategizing their breakout before the army's dawn assault. Visually, Kenren possessed short black hair, often with spiky strands framing his forehead, and eyes depicted variably as red, blue, or indigo. A forehead mark signified his high-born celestial lineage. He wore his military uniform unconventionally, accessorized with gaudy items like a sake jar tied to his belt. His characteristic sarcastic smirk and childlike smile bore a noted resemblance to his future incarnation, Sha Gojyo. In combat, he utilized firearms. His story concluded through reincarnation. Following the failed rebellion, Heaven exiled Kenren, Tenpou, Konzen, and Goku. Kenren was reborn as Sha Gojyo, a half-human, half-youkai who later joined Genjo Sanzo's journey west, linking his celestial past to his mortal future in a cyclical fate.
