TV-Series
Description
Daedalus is a mysterious and ethereal figure who appears throughout Heaven's Lost Property Forte, primarily within the dreams of the protagonist, Tomoki Sakurai. She is depicted as a winged being, often with a calm and thoughtful expression, and is deeply tied to the central mysteries of the plot. Her name is derived from the legendary Greek craftsman, fitting for her role as a brilliant inventor and creator.

As the creator of the first-generation Angeloids, including Ikaros, Nymph, and Astraea, Daedalus is presented as a genius-level scientist from the floating world known as Synapse. She is responsible for designing and building these powerful beings, and she refers to them as her daughters, showing a deep, caring, and maternal connection to them. Her personality is primarily defined by this compassion, contrasting sharply with the cruel and manipulative nature of the ruler of Synapse, Minos. She is driven by a desire to protect her creations and to rectify the mistakes of her past.

A core motivation for Daedalus is her plea for help, which she communicates to Tomoki through their shared dreams. She appears to him as a lover, only to fly away, leaving him crying upon waking, and asks him to save her, claiming she is captured by the sky. Her actions throughout the series are centered on this request; she deliberately sends the Angeloids to Earth to be with Tomoki in the hope that he can free them and, ultimately, herself from the stagnation and despair of Synapse. Her motivations are also fueled by guilt, as she believes her inventions, such as the wish-granting Rule, led to the existential crisis that drove Synapse's population to near-extinction.

In her role within the story, Daedalus functions as a guiding force from behind the scenes. She appears in Tomoki's dreams to offer cryptic warnings and insights, acting as a source of information about the Angeloids and the true nature of Synapse. The first encounter with Ikaros happens immediately after one of these prophetic dreams. She also collaborates with Tomoki's friend, Sugata, who is investigating Synapse, and is shown to have saved him from danger. She observes the events on Earth, watching over Tomoki and the Angeloids, and expresses a desire for them to find happiness, even if it means she cannot be directly involved in their lives.

Her key relationships are central to the plot. Her bond with Tomoki is the most significant, as she seems to harbor genuine affection for him, and their connection is far older than he realizes. The most profound revelation is her relationship with Sohara Mitsuki, Tomoki's childhood friend and classmate. It is ultimately revealed that Daedalus is the original Sohara from Synapse. She created a clone of herself to live on Earth and be with Tomoki after her own dream-life persona as a human girl died young. This makes the Sohara on Earth, in a sense, her daughter as well.

Over the course of the story, Daedalus undergoes significant development, though much of it is revealed as backstory. Initially a seemingly omnipotent creator, she is shown to be a tragic figure who has witnessed the decay of her entire world. Despite her immense power, she is unable to directly intervene on Earth. Her development is one of acceptance; after seeing the Angeloids find happiness with Tomoki, she resigns herself to simply dreaming and asks Tomoki to forget about her, content that at least her daughters are no longer trapped. Her final, desperate act involves giving Tomoki a lock to contain the dangerous second-generation Angeloid, Chaos, demonstrating her continued commitment to protecting those on Earth.

Daedalus possesses notable abilities befitting her status as Synapse's foremost scientist. She is ageless and possesses two pairs of wings. Her primary ability is not physical combat but extraordinary technological and scientific genius. She created all the first-generation Angeloids, each with their own unique and powerful abilities. She also invented the Rule, a device capable of granting any wish. She created the dive game technology that allows humans to enter dreams and travel to Synapse. While not a direct fighter, her intellect and creations are the driving force behind the entire series' conflict and resolution. She is often shown in a sickly or weakened state, reflecting the long eons she has lived and the toll of her existence on Synapse.
