Sixteen-year-old anime otaku Ryū Kawabata collaborates with his classmate Yuji Nakamura to orchestrate a series of murders within their bleak, dystopian society. Both are active participants in the killings that form the narrative's central mystery. Kawabata's involvement in these violent events defines his role, culminating in his death as the story unfolds.
