Description
Kazumi Amano, call sign "Rose Queen," is a Japanese space pilot born November 15, 2004, in Tokyo. Recognized by the nickname "Onee-sama" (meaning "elder sister" or "respected senior"), she pilots the giant robot Buster Machine 2 against extraterrestrial space monsters. She stands 168 cm tall with distinctive blue hair and blue eyes.

Her story starts at Okinawa Girls' Space Pilot High School, where junior pilot Noriko Takaya deeply idolizes her, adopting "Onee-sama" as a term of respect. Kazumi's exceptional skills and calm demeanor mark her as a top student and key defender of humanity. Early missions involve investigating the Luxion expedition remains and serving aboard the space battleship Exelion. She participates in critical operations, including escorting the damaged Exelion to Jupiter, detonated to create a black hole destroying pursuing space monsters.

She marries her instructor, Koichiro Oota, in 2033, becoming Kazumi Oota. Roughly 15 years later, she delivers the Jupiter-based Buster Machine 3 weapon to the core fleet in the final war. Promoted to Commander, she assumes control of Buster Machine 2, replacing Jung Freud. In the climactic battle, she and Noriko defend the fleet during Buster Machine 3's countdown. When damage prevents detonation, they descend into its core within their combined ship, Gunbuster, manually triggering the bomb using one of Gunbuster's degeneracy reactors.

Successfully activating the bomb, they escape but suffer severe time dilation. Subjectively experiencing only hours or days, 12,000 years pass on Earth. They return to the Solar System on July 6, 14,292, finding Earth apparently abandoned. A massive light pattern then appears on the planet's surface displaying "WELCOME HOMƎ!"—a message reversing the final character as Jung Freud's tribute. The pilots eject from Gunbuster and descend to Earth.

In the epilogue of the sequel *Diebuster*, set 10 years after its main events but chronologically after Kazumi and Noriko's return, adult protagonist Lal'C Mellk Mal encounters the pair descending. Lal'C vows to tell Noriko about the android Nono's sacrifice, connecting Kazumi's era to *Diebuster* and bridging the series' timelines. Her nickname "Onee-sama" and call sign "Rose Queen" persist as cultural references. Her personal vehicle, an RX-7, bears the nickname "Giselle."
