Salvatore Lucania masquerades as Luciano Carnevale, a music producer for Italian pop star Emilio Baretti. This public persona conceals his deep ties to multiple Italian Mafia families and extensive criminal operations. Lucania leverages Baretti's international concert tours as fronts for clandestine activities, including arms trafficking and underworld dealings. Both Baretti and his manager, Claudia Bellucci, are complicit in his exploitation of the singer's career. Lucania's core criminal objective involves acquiring and selling a fragment of Vespanian ore, a rare mineral capable of disrupting electromagnetic waves and highly valued for potential advanced stealth military applications. He intends to sell the ore to Alan Smithee, an agent of the fictional Gillanba Republic seeking it to counter military aggression. Lucania stages the exchange during Baretti's Japan concert, coordinating a meeting with Smithee at Haneda Airport. Unknown to Lucania, the exchange is an elaborate trap set by Lupin III. Lupin's associates, Jigen and Goemon, infiltrate Lucania's operation by posing as intermediaries Kein Gejidasu and Eishin Wakagomo. They arrange the meeting to reclaim the stolen ore for the Kingdom of Vespania, which commissioned Lupin. The confrontation erupts when Smithee arrives with armed reinforcements. Amidst the chaos, Lucania attempts escape aboard a plane with Smithee and the ore, taking Conan Edogawa hostage. Lupin boards the aircraft, leading to a direct clash. In a violent outburst, Lucania fires a minigun indiscriminately inside the cabin, damaging critical flight controls and puncturing the fuselage. The resulting sudden decompression violently ejects him from the aircraft, causing his confirmed death.
