In the film "Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie," Kaito Kuroba, the elusive phantom thief known as Kaitou Kid, makes a brief yet significant appearance. The narrative opens with a heist in which Lupin III impersonates Kid to steal a diamond, employing methods that deviate from Kid’s usual style—such as using a real gun and a high-speed boat instead of his signature hang glider cape.
Conan Edogawa, initially fooled into believing the thief is Kaitou Kid, gives chase but soon deduces Lupin’s involvement, a suspicion confirmed when Goemon Ishikawa slices Conan’s skateboard in half during the pursuit.
Later, in a post-credit scene, Kaito Kuroba personally intervenes. Seeking revenge for the impersonation, Kaitou Kid successfully steals a national treasure from a Kansai temple before Lupin can attempt the heist. Kid then notifies the police of Lupin’s whereabouts, resulting in an attempted arrest. This move showcases Kid’s characteristic cleverness and his commitment to safeguarding his reputation.
The film also features a continuity reference in which Lupin’s gang is aware of Conan’s true identity as Shinichi Kudo, following their prior crossover. Additionally, Kaito Kuroba’s strong natural resemblance to Shinichi Kudo—which in other media allows him to impersonate Shinichi without a mask—is noted, though this ability is not directly used within the film.
