Description
Sonic the Werehog emerges in the animated short "Sonic: Night of the Werehog" as Sonic the Hedgehog's nocturnal transformation. This form activates exclusively under a full moon, differing from game mechanics linked to sunset. The change process involves physical distress; Sonic collapses to his knees, snarling and straining visibly as his body restructures.

Physically, the Werehog undergoes dramatic changes: increased muscular density, elongated limbs featuring extendable arms ending in claws, and a broader torso. His fur darkens to a deep blue, contrasting with pale countershading on his chest and quill tips. Facial features turn distinctly bestial, marked by a pronounced muzzle, exposed fangs, and sharp, angled green eyes. Attire modifications include spiked red shoes and the absence of gloves.

His abilities focus on enhanced physical power. Stretchable arms enable traversal by swinging across gaps and combat via powerful claw strikes. Increased strength allows hurling heavy objects and foes. Combat techniques involve ground pounds generating shockwaves and multi-hit combos. Vocalizations shift to animalistic growls and howls, contrasting his typical behavior.

Personality remains fundamentally Sonic's – brave, adventurous, and protective. He shows no fear toward supernatural entities like ghosts and actively explores haunted settings. However, the transformation introduces feral traits: a notably shorter temper when provoked, especially after mockery. For instance, photographs depicting ghosts imitating his poses trigger explosive rage, resulting in indiscriminate attacks on his surroundings.

Within the short's narrative, Sonic transforms during a haunted house visit with Chip. When ghosts Su and Uh escalate their scare tactics, moonlight triggers his metamorphosis. His Werehog appearance initially terrifies the ghosts, but their subsequent fusion into a minotaur-like entity named Baker sparks a physical battle. Sonic utilizes his stretchable arms and shockwave attacks against Baker, countering the entity's invisibility. The conflict concludes when Sonic exploits the ghosts' visibility via photography and scatters them with a decisive punch.

The Werehog form also impacts interpersonal dynamics beyond combat. Ghost Lah, enamored with werewolf imagery, develops an infatuation upon seeing Sonic transformed. This leads her to shapeshift into Chip to orchestrate a photograph with Sonic, demonstrating the form's unintended social consequences.
