Priest Kufu hails from the planet Murat, conquered by hostile machines before the events on Astria. Fleeing Murat's fall as a refugee, he rose to lead a guerrilla resistance against the machines. He offers sanctuary and guidance to Queen Lilia and her son Prince Jimsa following their escape from the machine-controlled Cosmoralian Empire. Leading the resistance from Astria's desert wastelands, Kufu directs survivors facing dangers from environmental hazards, predators, bandits, and the machines. He shapes Prince Jimsa's development as the prophesied Sun King, destined to unite the legacies of Murat, Ayodoya, and Cosmoralia against the invaders.

When Prince Jimsa and his twin Affle prove unable to defeat the machines using their energy beam powers, Kufu joins the critical effort to annihilate Astria, detonating the planet to destroy the machine threat. Before the destruction, he ensures the twins' escape in a space capsule bound for a distant, lifeless planet where their cells may eventually evolve into new lifeforms.
