Description
Professor Bond leads the Bond family and heads scientific expeditions to Mondo Island, also known as Skull Island. Accompanied by his teenage daughter Susan and young son Bobby, he researches the island's unique fauna and prehistoric creatures, including dinosaurs. During their work, Bobby forms a significant bond with King Kong after the giant ape saves him from a Tyrannosaurus rex. This event establishes Kong as the family's protector, leading Professor Bond to accept and integrate the ape into their group.
Professor Bond collaborates closely with Captain Englehorn, who commands their expedition vessel and provides logistical support. Englehorn's character draws inspiration from the same-named figure in the original 1933 *King Kong* film. Throughout their adventures, Professor Bond and his family, alongside Kong, confront various threats including natural disasters, prehistoric creatures, extraterrestrial invaders, military confrontations, and the recurring schemes of the antagonist Dr. Who. Dr. Who, a mad scientist intent on capturing Kong, creates robotic duplicates like Mechani-Kong to achieve this goal. Professor Bond's scientific expertise and leadership are central to navigating these challenges.
The character served as inspiration for Commander Carl Nelson in the 1967 Toho film *King Kong Escapes*.
