Kuraki Fuzuchi is a high school student wielding significant psychic abilities and exceptional swordsmanship. He carries an ancient sword that channels his psychic power. His quest focuses on locating seven legendary swords, forged in the ancient Izumo era by the blacksmith Tsukamoto Tomohiko for the priest Manashi. These swords maintained a barrier sealing the grudge of the deity Susanoo. All but one sword were stolen during a war and later scattered when a train transporting them was hit during an air raid in Osaka.

Kuraki's life intertwines with Takeo Nanachi, a college student possessing latent psychic powers, after Nanachi accidentally witnesses Kuraki's shaman initiation ritual. This encounter occurs during a rare purification festival at a mountain shrine, held once every 49 years. Their connection echoes a past-life bond from the Izumo era, where Kuraki was the priest Manashi and Nanachi was a swordsmith.

In that past life as Manashi, Kuraki oversaw the seven sacred swords protecting the barrier at Ikuya, placing him at the center of supernatural conflicts involving spirits and divine forces. Present-day Kuraki retains this connection to ancient powers and responsibilities, navigating encounters with ghosts, demons, and other supernatural entities while uncovering truths about his past incarnation.
