Description
Marsh began as Mallow (Maro), beloved pet dog of Aida Mana. Four years before the main events, Mallow tragically died after a car struck him while trying to follow Mana to her grandmother's hospital, scarring Mana emotionally. After death, Mallow's lingering spirit, burdened by the belief Mana had forgotten him, forged a contract with a sentient entity called the Clarinet. This pact transformed him into Marsh, a humanoid figure with white hair, red eyes, and wearing a gold heart-shaped collar mirroring his original dog tag. In his villain form, he dons a black mask and purple robe, his eyes shifting to green.
As Marsh, he declared himself king of the Land of Memories—a realm for forgotten things. He resented humanity for discarding usable objects and specifically sought revenge against Mana for perceived abandonment. Using a magical clarinet, he animated discarded objects into a giant whale-like airship and trapped people within film reels, forcing them to relive past memories eternally and stealing their futures. He commanded three henchmen manifested by the Clarinet: Mannequin Carmine, Silver Clock, and Purple Buggy.
His primary ability, "Eleven Fang," summoned eleven small dog spirits for attack. He could also revert to a dog form resembling his original self as Mallow. The clarinet enabled both object animation and memory-trapping projections.
Marsh specifically targeted Mana, altering her memories and transporting her to a recreated past where her grandmother and Mallow lived, but her friends Alice and Rikka were absent. During a confrontation with the Pretty Cure team, Cure Heart recognized Marsh's heart-shaped collar, revealing his true identity as Mallow. Mana refused to fight, expressing enduring love and apologizing. This caused Mallow to revert from corruption, reject the Clarinet's control, and reclaim his true name.
The Clarinet, exposed as the true antagonist manipulating Marsh, then transported itself to the future to destroy the Cures' destiny. Marsh/Mallow allied with the Cures in pursuit. Inside the Clarinet's fortress, he sacrificed himself to shield Cure Heart from an attack, his body shattered by the energy blast and vanishing, leaving only his psyche. He expressed no regrets and urged Mana not to grieve.
His psyche was entrusted to Bebel, later revealed as the spirit of Mana's deceased grandmother, Isuzu Bando. Bebel promised to care for Mallow's psyche as it departed for heaven alongside her, leaving Mana wondering if she would see him again. His sacrifice also enabled Cure Heart to achieve a powerful temporary transformation, Engage Mode, crucial for defeating the Clarinet.
Marsh's arc centers on the pain of being forgotten, manipulation, and redemption through reconnection and self-sacrifice for the person he cherished most.
