Description
Ryuukou Yanagi, alias "Yanagi the Poisoner," is a Japanese death row convict infamous for escaping a rocket-proof glass prison through martial prowess. His crimes span testing lethal techniques like the Vacuum Palm on inmates, resulting in his death sentence. Middle-aged and compactly muscular, he bears black hair streaked with gray, a perpetually somber expression, and standard prison attire—beige pants and a tunic. Severe injuries later alter his physique: a prosthetic iron hook replaces his right hand, while acrylic sheathes the left side of his face, giving him a grotesque, patchwork appearance.

Disciplined in the Way of the Void under master Kunimatsu, Yanagi wields esoteric techniques. The Vacuum Palm compresses air to suffocate foes or explosively rupture skulls, while his Whip Strike liquefies limbs into whip-like projectiles. His Poison Hand technique, forged by submerging his right hand in agonizing toxins until it becomes lethally venomous, underscores his masochistic dedication to martial dominance.

Though outwardly stoic, Yanagi weaponizes psychological warfare, baiting enemies with riddles about poisonous gases before striking. He clings fiercely to Japanese tradition, invoking Bushido to scorn adversaries as dishonorable. Even after brutal defeats—losing his hand to Izou Motobe or surviving Yuujirou Hanma’s near-fatal assault—he denies surrender, his pride outweighing pragmatism.

In the "Most Evil Death Row Convicts" arc, he joins four fellow escapees to siege Tokyo’s fighters. Ambushing Baki Hanma twice with sickles and partnering with Sikorsky, his plans unravel against Gouki Shibukawa and Baki’s allies. Motobe exposes his dependence on weapons and poison as critical flaws. The spin-off *Revenge Tokyo* revisits Yanagi post-recapture, orchestrating a bloody jailbreak after slaughtering mocking guards. His past rivalry with Shibukawa, whom he once blinded, resurfaces, alongside cunning gambits like posing as a gardener to ambush Baki.

Yanagi’s narrative thread weaves a paradox: he claims to crave defeat yet defiantly rejects every loss. His legacy endures as a venomous tactician, blending martial discipline with psychological manipulation, leaving scars on foes and the story itself—a relentless force repeatedly broken but never subdued.
