OVA
Description
Dorian Kaiō, originally from the United States, served as a Private in the US Army shortly after World War II. Stationed in Japan, he began studying martial arts before traveling to China. There, he became a practitioner of Chinese Kenpo, training under the same master as Kaiō Retsu. Dorian achieved the title of Kaiō, becoming the first Western man in history to attain this rank; his time at the temple preceded Retsu's attainment of the same title.
His criminal history remains unspecified, but his actions led to a death sentence. Imprisoned in Washington state and sentenced to hang, Dorian feigned death during the execution, killed prison guards, and escaped. He left a message indicating his departure for Tokyo.
Physically imposing at 203 cm (6'8") and approximately 130 kg (286 lbs), Dorian possesses large muscles and long gray hair, often covered by a bandana; his hair was blonde in youth. His initial attire was a gray hoodie, dark olive green pants, and brown boots. After being set on fire, his clothing was reduced to charred shorts. Later, he adopted a three-piece chocolate brown suit with a green necktie.
Personality-wise, Dorian typically displayed calmness but exhibited a juvenile mentality, enjoying amusement park rides and holding hands with acquaintances – a trait stemming from an interrupted childhood during World War II. He lost faith in martial arts, relying instead on gadgets, dirty tactics, and psychological manipulation during fights. His signature techniques included feigned crying to evoke pity, hypnotic suggestion, and environmental weaponization like using piano wire, glass shards, or concealed grenades.
In Tokyo, Dorian targeted fighters to "taste defeat." He confronted Doppo Orochi and Katsumi Orochi at the Shinshinkai Dojo, gouging Katsumi's eyes, strangling him with a black belt, and kicking wood into his throat. When Kaiō Retsu intervened, Dorian attempted fake crying and breath-based fire attacks before escaping.
Dorian later joined four other death row convicts at the Underground Arena under Mitsunari Tokugawa's mediation. During preparations for a formal fight with Doppo, Doppo ambushed him with a backpack strike. Dorian retaliated with concealed wire, severing Doppo's hand. Doppo counterattacked by thrusting his stump into Dorian's face, enabling his escape for medical treatment.
After burning the dojo using gasoline, Katsumi Orochi ignited Dorian, causing severe burns. Kiyosumi Katou, seeking vengeance for Doppo, severed Dorian's ear with fishing wire. Dorian detonated a grenade concealed in his stomach and fled into sewers. Katou pursued, leading to a confrontation where Dorian used glass-coated hands and hypnotic suggestion via French singing ("O Toi La Vie") to overpower Katou, slashing his neck with piano wire and leaving him for dead in a boxing bag.
Declared public enemy number one by the Shinshinkai school, Dorian disguised himself but was recognized at a restaurant. A taxi driver affiliated with Shinshinkai delivered him to an abandoned amusement park. There, he effortlessly defeated another member before facing park manager Ashida. He later encountered Atsushi Suedou, engaging in a relatively balanced fight he reportedly enjoyed due to the opponent's comparable strength.
His final confrontation occurred with Kaiō Retsu, who rejected Dorian's underhanded methods and embodied the integrity of Chinese Kenpo. Retsu's victory shattered Dorian's worldview, causing a complete mental breakdown. Dorian realized his lifelong victories were meaningless due to reliance on deceit, and his mind regressed to that of a five-year-old child. Post-defeat, he lost all fighting ability. During the Chinese Challenge tournament, he appeared in light turquoise pajamas with bandaged injuries, exhibiting no recollection of his past, displaying only childlike innocence and a love for candies.
