Description
Baron Salamander serves as the main antagonist in the 2010 anime film *Heartcatch Pretty Cure!: Hana no Miyako de Fashion Show... Desu ka!?*. Originally a high-ranking member of the Desert Apostles, he acted as Dune's right-hand servant until displaced by Professor Sabaku. Centuries prior to the film, Dune dispatched him to France to transform Earth into a desert. His campaign ended when the first Pretty Cure, Cure Ange, defeated and sealed him within Mont Saint-Michel's abbey, fragmenting his powers across Europe.

He presents as a tall humanoid with long crimson hair, turquoise eyes, and a white mask concealed beneath his hair, dressed in dark clothing accented by a purple ribbon with a gemstone. His true form manifests as a massive black dragon possessing horns and red-veined wings, embodying his latent destructive power.

Centuries after his sealing, the young orphan Olivier discovered him, mistaking Salamander's voice for Archangel Michael's. Salamander exploited Olivier's longing for family, manipulating the boy into freeing him and aiding his quest to reclaim the scattered power crystals. He bestowed the name "Loup-Garou" (Werewolf) upon Olivier, training him in combat and embedding a power crystal fragment into the boy's forehead. This granted Olivier supernatural abilities but triggered lycanthropic transformations during full moons. Their relationship evolved into a paternal bond, with Olivier viewing Salamander as a father despite the Baron's initial ulterior motives.

Salamander's objective centered on amassing his fragmented powers to destroy the world, fueled by centuries of hatred towards Dune—who exiled him for questioning hearts—and the Pretty Cure lineage, intensified after his defeat by Cure Ange. His plans unraveled when Olivier, influenced by the Pretty Cure team's kindness, stole his fully restored power crystal. Salamander deployed Snacky minions to pursue Olivier, leading to confrontations with the Cures in Paris.

During the climax, Salamander reclaimed his power and unleashed his draconic form, threatening Paris. The combined efforts of the Pretty Cure team and Olivier subdued him. Overwhelmed by Olivier's emotional appeal and the Cures' "Heartcatch Orchestra" attack amplified by Parisian crowds, Salamander was purified. Defeated but alive, he abandoned his destructive ambitions. His power crystal shattered permanently. Reconciling with Olivier, he shortened his hair and embarked on a new journey with the boy as genuine father and son.

Beyond the film, Salamander is referenced in Episode 48 of the *Heartcatch Pretty Cure!* television series as the provider of the mind-controlling mask later used by Sabaku to Yuri's father. He also appears in *Pretty All Stars DX3* as a clone created by Black Hole, though this version's connection remains ambiguous. Visually inspired by Erik from *The Phantom of the Opera*, Salamander stands alongside Olivier as one of the few surviving former Desert Apostles.
