Description
Welkin Gunther, son of celebrated First Europan War hero General Belgen Gunther, was born circa 1913 in Bruhl, a village on Gallia’s border. Childhood expeditions with his father instilled a lifelong fascination with nature, fostering skills in wildlife observation and entomology. Orphaned by his mother’s wartime death and his father’s passing at 13, he and Isara—his adopted Darcsen sister, daughter of engineer Theimer—were cared for by family friend Martha Lipponen. His close bond with Isara solidified his empathetic, inclusive perspective.

A university student specializing in animal sociology, Welkin’s education halted when the Second Europan War erupted. Conscripted into the Gallian Militia, his strategic insight and family legacy secured him command of Squad 7 as a lieutenant. Prioritizing cohesion, he bridged divides within the unit, notably easing friction between Isara and anti-Darcsen soldier Rosie. His battlefield tactics drew inspiration from natural patterns—mimicking animal migration or root systems—enabling victories such as retaking the Great Vasel Bridge and traversing Kloden Wildwood.

Leading from the customized tank Edelweiss, engineered by Theimer and inherited from his father, Welkin embodied Gallia’s martial heritage. Personal trials, including Isara’s death mid-conflict, deepened his resolve to safeguard allies. Mutual respect with Squad 7 member Alicia Melchiott blossomed into romance, leading to postwar marriage and a daughter named Isara in tribute.

After the war, Welkin transitioned to teaching biology in rural Gallia, guiding students through immersive field studies. He embraced a tranquil life with Alicia, frequently venturing into wilderness areas with their family. Decades later, he temporarily rejoined military efforts, aiding Federation Squad E in repelling Imperial incursions through collaborative leadership.

Known for quiet perceptiveness and a focus on collective understanding, Welkin balanced academic curiosity with battlefield pragmatism. Though occasionally prone to blunt remarks—comparing Alicia’s determination to a rhinoceros beetle—his authenticity and modesty inspired unwavering loyalty. His legacy endures as a harmonizer who blended empathetic dialogue with inventive strategy to forge peace.
