Description
Touko Aozaki, the older sister of Aoko Aozaki, was raised apart from her sister and parents under her grandfather's strict tutelage in a mountain workshop near Misaki Town. Designated the Aozaki clan successor, she trained intensely in sorcery. At age 14, she studied in London for two years before returning to Japan and excelling academically and socially at Reien Girl's Academy. Her path shattered when her grandfather abruptly transferred the successor rights to the less formally trained Aoko. Touko reacted by killing her grandfather and fleeing to England, joining the Mage's Association. Her relationship with Aoko remained deeply strained, especially after Aoko claimed the coveted "Blue" title, leaving Touko with the epithet "Scarred Red."
Recognizing the Clock Tower offered essential resources for an amateur mage seeking revenge, Touko specialized in the then-unpopular field of runes. She spent years stabilizing runic characters and studying the human body through intricate doll making. Her research aimed to recreate the original human form to reach the Root, but she abandoned it upon concluding modern humans could no longer achieve this due to genetic diversification. Achieving the prestigious rank of Grand by age 20, she nonetheless left the Clock Tower shortly after due to her troublesome nature. During her studies, she associated with peers Souren Araya and Cornelius Alba under mentor Inorai Valualeta Atroholm, engaging in exploits like supplying puppets for Alba's chocolate factory and a rivalry-turned-conflict with Araya over reaching Akasha.
Globally acknowledged as the premier puppet master, Touko earned a sealing designation for creating perfect replicas of her own body, though it was later rescinded. Possessing an anomalous 20 Magic Circuits for the Aozaki lineage, her skills extend to Medical Treatment, Construction, Business, and Information Gathering. Beyond puppetry, she crafts functional body parts, including mystic eye killers (sunglasses) later stolen by Aoko. Financially impulsive, she frequently overspends on mystical items from "Dark Amazon," leading to insolvency and delayed employee payments. Her adventures include purchasing the werewolf Lugh Beowulf with twenty years' worth of her hair and a destructive rampage against the demon Francesca, whom she killed multiple times before Aoko intervened.
Touko resembles a woman in her late twenties, her appearance described as "fixed into place." She consistently wears at least one orange accessory despite hating the color association in her name. A heavy smoker favoring the rare Dragon Smoke brand, she uses cigarettes to inscribe runes in the air. Her personality shifts dramatically based on eyewear: glasses present a calm, objective, ruthless facade, while their absence reveals a subjective, emotional, and visibly cruel side. This duality leaves her true self undefined. A fundamental romanticist, she loves novelty and obsessively tinkers with intriguing objects. She enjoys high-speed pursuits, owning multiple vehicles, and maintains a pragmatic view of certifications, valuing skill over formal credentials.
Within *Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files*, Touko appears as a guest character in the "Twin Towers of Iselma" case and a Clock Tower reunion special. Her arrival during the reunion inadvertently escalates a conflict involving magically recreated past events, triggering a confrontation with Lord El-Melloi II (Waver Velvet) and his students. They disrupt her magecraft twice, demonstrating their growth, while her presence underscores her formidable reputation paralleling figures like Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg or Aoko.
In her later years, Touko shifted focus from her initial obsession with the Root. She operates a detective agency specializing exclusively in supernatural cases, employing individuals like Mikiya Kokutou and Shiki Ryougi, leveraging her vast knowledge across all magecraft branches. Though she no longer pursues the Root, she remains content, occasionally mentoring others such as Azaka. Her relationship with Aoko shows signs of mending over time.
