Description
Shō Sawamura serves as a UN Cosmo Navy officer aboard the space battleship Yamato, holding the position of Deputy Commander within the ship's Fighter Wing. At 19 years old, he remains the youngest pilot assigned to the vessel during its mission to Iscandar, distinguished by his auburn hair and ochre eyes.
During the events of *Odyssey of the Celestial Ark*, Sawamura joins Susumu Kodai, Mikage Kiryu, Kaoru Niimi, and Yoshikazu Aihara on a planetary survey mission. They deploy in the all-environment Ki-8 "Stork" vehicle to investigate a mysterious ringed planet where Yamato has become stranded. After the planet's surface transforms and traps the Stork, the landing party discovers a wrecked Imperial Japanese battleship that manifests internally as an elegant hotel, housing stranded Garmillas personnel.
Amid interactions between the Yamato crew and Garmillas officers like Major Fomt Berger and Colonel Neredia Ricke, a hole spontaneously appears beneath Sawamura, causing him to fall through. This hole becomes the focal point for escape efforts, driving collaboration between human and Garmillas crews as they excavate it despite diminishing food supplies and rising tensions.
Sawamura demonstrates trust in Mikage Kiryu's perceptions when she reports hearing voices in the Zirel language. Sharing this experience, they bond over rationed food, reinforcing their professional relationship. His reactions throughout the hotel sequence reflect his role as a junior officer adapting to unpredictable circumstances alongside seasoned crew members.
