Jun Ichikawa was born on Earth on April 22, 2180. She enlisted in the United Nations Cosmo Navy and saw action in the Garmillas War, rising to the rank of Space Seaman Apprentice. In 2199, she was assigned to the space battleship Yamato for its maiden voyage to Iscandar, serving as a radio operator under Lieutenant Yoshikazu Aihara. She took over his shift just before the ship’s first encounter with Gatlantis, performing her duties throughout the initial engagement and the subsequent evasion of enemy pursuit.

On October 8, 2202, Ichikawa joined fellow Yamato veterans at Hero’s Hill on Earth to honor their late commanding officer, Admiral Juzo Okita, on the third anniversary of his death.

By 2205, she had been promoted to Ensign. After Aihara transferred to the carrier Hyuga, Ichikawa succeeded him as communications chief aboard the Yamato for its diplomatic mission to the Salezar system. She took part in the ensuing Iscandar Incident.

When the 65th Escort Corps was reorganized, Ichikawa was reassigned to the supply carrier Asuka as its communications chief. During Dezariam’s invasion of Earth, she supported Operation DAD, helping retrieve former Yamato personnel from the planet. Her analysis allowed the Asuka to covertly track coordinates to the derelict Icarus Observatory, whose last transmission had been over a decade earlier. While there, she intercepted brief, unexplained hyperspace transmissions.

After the confrontation with the heavy battleship Grodez, Ichikawa returned to the Yamato and resumed her post as head of communications.

She has red hair, usually worn in two long braids, blue eyes, and freckles. Her standard Yamato uniform is the bright yellow of the operations department, cut with a looser fit than other female crew members, and she wears boots beneath it.
