Description
Gunma Akagi hails from Akagi Village in Gunma Prefecture, raised on a family farm. He is the illegitimate son of politician Soichiro Akagi, who adopted him only after his biological mother's death. Within the Akagi household, Gunma faced constant rejection and hostility from his stepmother and half-brothers, Shoma and Yuma. Soichiro openly scorned Gunma as a "pale imitation" and a family disgrace, forging a deeply antagonistic relationship.

Gunma displayed a hot-blooded, impulsive, and selfish personality in his youth. He frequently engaged in reckless behavior, modifying farm tractors for high-speed street races and instigating confrontations like running a sports car off the road in anger. His early racing tactics often involved cheating or crude maneuvers, such as hurling objects at opponents or creating diversions. Despite this, he possessed innate driving talent and an unwavering determination to become a Formula One racer, seeing it as his path to surpass his father.

Disowned by Soichiro, Gunma relocated to Tokyo to pursue racing. He initially lacked a driver’s license and formal training but began honing his skills under instructor Junko Komori. He lived in a multi-generational boarding house, forming bonds with its residents that contrasted with his fractured family. His childhood friend, gifted mechanic Tamotsu Oishi, joined him in Tokyo, providing technical support and a stabilizing influence on Gunma’s volatile nature.

Gunma’s career progressed from amateur street clashes to professional circuits. Rivalries with drivers like Hijiri Kazuto pushed him to refine his abilities, though his aggressive style persisted. Conflicts extended to his family, particularly when his brother Yuuma managed a rival team. The death of a significant figure during his career prompted a period of reflection and growth, leading him to compete internationally, including in London. There, he met musician Sako, who became a new romantic interest.

Across subsequent sequels like F Regeneration Ruri and F Final, Gunma matured into a more focused, professional racer. His relentless drive remained, but his earlier selfishness diminished as he navigated complex relationships, professional setbacks, and ongoing family tensions. His journey culminated in F Complete, where his legacy as a racer continued to develop, charting his transformation from a rebellious outsider to a dedicated competitor.
