Description
Chiri Tsukikawa is an eleven-year-old girl who becomes a key figure in the third season of the PriPara anime. Originally a student at the prestigious Pakuchi Elementary School, she is the eldest daughter of a famous and incredibly wealthy tea ceremony master. Her home life is formal, and she is often seen accompanied by attendants. Despite her privileged background, her everyday demeanor is gentle, shy, and easily excitable, and she has a noted sensitivity to unclean or messy environments.
Her entry into the world of PriPara is reluctant at first. After an initial introduction guided by the idol Laala Manaka, Chiri debuts as a Lovely-type idol using the Twinkle Ribbon brand. However, a significant shift occurs when she later returns to PriPara. Due to a "Celebrity Jewel" that attaches to her microphone, her idol persona undergoes a dramatic transformation. In this new form, her appearance changes: her pale brown hair becomes a longer, dark teal color styled with thick braids, and her eyes turn electric blue. Her personality also shifts completely, becoming arrogant, demanding, and high-princess-like. This stark contrast between her shy real self and her proud idol persona initially causes Chiri deep embarrassment and reluctance, as she struggles to reconcile these two sides of her identity. Over time, she learns to accept this duality and finds a balance between her true nature and her stage character, establishing herself as a Celeb-type idol affiliated with the Dear Crown brand.
Chiri's primary motivation evolves from mere participation to finding her own path as an idol. She struggles with the instructions given to her by a mysterious voice from her Rosette Compact, which is later revealed to be the goddess Janis. Janis directs many of Chiri's early activities in PriPara, leading to internal conflict. Chiri ultimately defies these instructions to follow her own feelings of friendship and loyalty. This decision solidifies her commitment to her team and her own sense of self.
In the story, Chiri is a core member of the idol unit NonSugar, alongside Non Manaka and Pepper Taiyou. Her relationship with Pepper is marked by constant contrast and bickering that masks a deep bond. Chiri's color scheme and outfit choices favor cool tones and dark or soft pastels, while Pepper's are warm and bright. Chiri's reserved real personality clashes with Pepper's excitable nature, but their teamwork is essential to the unit's success. She also shares a relationship with Non as a stabilizing teammate and looks up to Laala Manaka as an admired senpai, having initially mirrored her brand choice.
Throughout the series, Chiri develops significantly from an embarrassed and unwilling participant to a confident idol who accepts both her shy self and her demanding stage persona. She initially tries to avoid PriPara because of the drastic change in her behavior but eventually grows to embrace her dual identity as an important part of who she is. Her time with the NonSugar unit, especially facing challenges and reconciling with her teammates, is central to this personal growth.
Notable abilities include her powerful Celeb-type idol performances, which command attention and even cause others to bow in deference when she uses commanding phrases. She is also able to use a "Super Cyalume Coord" with her team. Outside of idol activities, she comes from a family with high cultural refinement, suggested by her father's status as a tea ceremony master. Her birthday is November 15, making her zodiac sign Scorpio, and her spiritual animal is a peacock. Her surname, Tsukikawa, combines the characters for moon and river or stream. Despite her elegant image, she has a well-documented fear of spiders and caterpillars. Her name also follows the spice-themed naming convention of her unit, NonSugar.
