Description
Asuka Ootorii, the central figure designated "Rapture" among magical girls, achieved her childhood dream when interdimensional Disas invaded Earth. Spirits granted her magical abilities to combat this threat. The Disas murdered her parents during the war, delivering their remains to her piece by piece, an act which solidified her resolve to eradicate them by any means. After commander Francine's death, she led the surviving magical girls, defeating the Disas King and reducing the original group of eleven to the five survivors known as the Magical Five.

Post-war, she retired to pursue a normal civilian life, attending high school and distancing herself from her magical identity. Living alone with military officer Yoshiaki Iizuka as her legal guardian, she struggled with severe PTSD, enduring flashbacks, nightmares, and emotional triggers like mascots reminiscent of Disas atrocities. The resurgence of Disas terrorism and attacks on classmates forced her back into combat, joining Japan's anti-magical terrorism unit, M-Squad, to protect friends and confront new threats.

Her personality blends stoicism with profound loyalty. Initially appearing cold and withdrawn, she is deeply protective of friends and committed to creating a safer world. She exhibits significant social awkwardness in civilian life, struggling to relate to peers and remaining oblivious to romantic advances. This contrasts with her combat proficiency, where she demonstrates confidence, assertiveness, and tactical prowess. Trauma triggers Heroic BSoD moments when confronted with echoes of past losses, though she pushes forward to shield others from similar pain. She rejects the "hero" label, driven instead by a desire to help others achieve dreams she now views as tarnished.

Key relationships define her journey. Her bond with Kurumi Mugen ("War Nurse") evolves from mutual reliance to romance. Kurumi handles interrogation and torture duties to spare her emotional strain, fearing her disapproval. After Kurumi confesses romantic feelings, she accepts, becoming an official couple. They share a kiss, later live together with Sachuu as a roommate, and engage in physical intimacy described as satisfying by Kurumi. Her dynamic with Francine was complex, marked by disagreements over Francine's inappropriate behavior but mutual combat respect. Francine's death and later reappearance as terrorist leader Brigadier added conflict and grief. She forms connections with classmates like Sayako Hata and Nozomi Makino, whose safety motivates her return to duty. Sayako's transformation into an illegal magical girl and subsequent death lead her to discover and activate a hidden revival power, restoring Sayako to life.

Her combat emphasizes close-quarters efficiency. Her primary weapon is a morphable karambit knife that shifts into a katana for her special move, "Rapture Talon," capable of cutting through magical defenses. She employs a reverse grip consistent with the karambit and excels in martial arts, particularly silat and Vovinam. Defensive capabilities include a reactive magical shield and perception-blocking to conceal her identity. A latent revival power surfaces late in her story, allowing resurrection of the dead if strongly willed and physical remnants exist, though excessive use risks personal disintegration. Key victories include defeating the Disas King, the cyborg Giess (costing her an arm, later healed by Kurumi), and multiple Disas generals.

Her development spans several conflicts. The Babel Brigade Arc sees her rejoining the fight after classmates are targeted, culminating in enlistment with M-Squad. The Okinawa Arc involves losing an arm battling Giess. The Ukraine and Saving Phoenix Arcs focus on rescuing brainwashed comrades Tamara Volkova and Lau Peipei from Russian manipulation. In the New York Arc, she confronts revived Disas forces, learns of Francine's survival as the Brigadier, and witnesses Sayako's death. The epilogue reveals her depression over losses, tempered by her commitment to Kurumi. After discovering her revival ability via a recording from Francine, she resurrects Sayako, achieving closure and a rare smile.
