Chief Daruma is a daruma doll Engimon living in the Amanogawa household's children's room within the Shichifukujin neighborhood. As one of the five Engimon alongside Haruo the papier-mache dog, Kin-chan the goldfish paper balloon, Hebikura the bamboo snake, and Koume the Kokeshi doll, Chief Daruma helps watch over the siblings Himi and Yamato.

His primary involvement begins when an unfamiliar Engimon appears, prompting Himi to pursue it outside. This event causes Chief Daruma and the other Engimon to spring to life, revealing their sentience to Yamato. Chief Daruma then joins the group's rescue mission to retrieve Himi, working directly with Yamato and his fellow Engimon.
