Zungurii hails from the Gurii tribe in Grand Rolo, part of a large family tragically captured by the Otherworld King, leaving only him and his brother Nonbirii free. His life changed when Dan Bashin retrieved Nonbirii's stolen deck, forging Zungurii's admiration and loyalty. Grateful, he gifted Dan the card Ankillersaurus and received Lizardedge, though Dan soon allowed him to keep both to build his own deck, marking the start of Zungurii's journey as Dan's steadfast companion.

Driven to rescue his family and support Dan as a core soldier, Zungurii showed unwavering dedication. He attempted practical support, like preparing curry to maintain Dan's strength before battles. Initial culinary failures sparked conflicts, but Zungurii persevered. His efforts succeeded when Dan declared his curry superior to his mother's, especially after Dan defended the cooking during a duel with Revolver West, reinforcing Zungurii's commitment to non-combat contributions.

Zungurii faced emotional trials, including guilt after inadvertently giving the X-rare card The DragonEmperor Siegfried to Revolver West, an Otherworld King ally. His resolve hardened during the mission to the red Horizon Ladder where his family was imprisoned. While Dan and Magisa battled adversaries, Zungurii personally destroyed the Horizon Ladder, freeing his family and others. Despite reunion, he chose to continue traveling with Dan, encouraged by his father to pursue their mission.

His development included stepping into combat during Dan's absence. Captured by Emperor Kotarou in the yellow world, Zungurii borrowed Kotarou's ThunderEmperorDragon Siegwurm for a duel. With limited Battle Spirits knowledge, he secured victory through sheer determination, later returning the card, solidifying his capability as an independent fighter. Later, when Dan was emotionally broken after defeat, Zungurii and Clackey Ray defended the group and repaired the airship Violet.

In the final confrontation with the Otherworld King, Zungurii contributed the red magic card Big Bang Energy to Dan's deck, pivotal in Dan's victory. After the battle, facing separation as worlds sealed, Zungurii rushed to prepare one final curry meal. Dan gifted him Siegwurm as a parting gift, directing him to continue battling in his own right.
