Description
Kobayashi Matcha, also known as Maccha Kobayashi, is a Japanese high school student and a main character from the Project 575 multimedia initiative. Her name reflects finely powdered green tea, mirroring her green hair and overall color palette. She stands 158 cm tall, born on September 13, making her a Virgo with AB blood type.

Matcha possesses a reserved and introverted personality, typically calm and composed. She tends to conceal her emotions and often speaks bluntly, sometimes making unintentionally sharp remarks. Her hobbies include reading books and creating dōjinshi or fanzines. She harbors a belief in supernatural entities, especially evil spirits, which she fears. This fear leads her to avoid specific locations like a park pond, where falling in twice caused lasting trauma. She also loves cats and attempts to communicate with them using "cat speak," convinced they understand her.

Visually, Matcha has long, straight green hair usually adorned with skull-shaped hairpins. Her initial design features a casual school uniform: an off-white top, blue pleated skirt, thigh-high black socks, and brown shoes. Later depictions show a more idol-inspired look: a white sleeveless dress with green frilled trim, long gloves, ribbon-adorned boots, and an "M" emblem on the dress.

Within her social circle, Matcha shares a close friendship with the energetic Masaoka Azuki. They frequently collaborate on creative projects involving traditional 5-7-5 syllable poetry and dance routines, often visiting bath houses together after getting soaked. Their classmate Yosano Yuzu sometimes joins them; Yuzu imagines romantic scenarios between Matcha and Azuki, though Matcha remains largely unaware. Later, another classmate, Ono Koume, integrates into the group, participating in discussions about their creative work.

Matcha's journey centers on her involvement in the 575 project. Initially questioning the purpose of composing haiku-like songs, she gradually embraces it as enjoyable self-expression with Azuki. She participates in practices, scouts locations for inspiration, and collaborates on dance videos uploaded online. Her experiences include overcoming minor fears, like passing the "haunted" pond to reach a crepe shop, and contributing to group decisions about their artistic direction. While her core introversion and composure remain, her engagement with friends and creative pursuits shows subtle growth in openness and collaboration.

Beyond the anime, Matcha exists as a commercial VOCALOID voicebank developed by SEGA and Yamaha. Her voice suits calm melodies like ballads, with a recommended range of G2–E4 and a tempo of 70–180 BPM. This synthesizer originated in the PS Vita rhythm game *Uta Kumi 575*, where players construct 5-7-5 poems, and later appeared in the crossover title *Miracle Girls Festival*.
