Karen Miyanoshita, originally named Kayako Kamiyama, was born in 1961 and died in 1995 at the age of 34. She possessed reddish-brown hair and green eyes, traits she passed to her daughter. As a child, she had dark brown hair, which she often wore with a yellow ribbon, and was frequently seen in a white blouse and a dark blue skirt with suspenders. She attended Amanogawa Elementary School, known as "The Old School House," in 1973 while her mother served as the school's principal. It was there she met her future husband, Reiichirou Miyanoshita. Karen demonstrated artistic talent, winning first prize in a contest, and received a musical box from Reiichirou which she cherished for life. From an early age, she held a strong belief in ghosts and developed spiritual abilities, becoming both a medium and an exorcist. Her unique method involved placing encountered ghosts into a state of spiritual sleep instead of destroying them. Concerned these spirits might one day return, she recorded all known information about them in a volume she called "the Ghost Diary." After graduating, she married Reiichirou Miyanoshita. They had two children: a daughter, Satsuki, born in May 1990, and a son, Keiichirou, born in 1994. Her cooking was generally average, though she was noted to be quite skilled at making dumplings. In 1995, she fell ill and was admitted to St. Rosario Hospital. During her stay, a Cursed Nurse ghost visited her and foretold her imminent death. One night in the hospital cafeteria, she encountered Momoko Koigakubo and, through their conversation, appeared to come to terms with her fate. The day before she died, she wrote a letter to her family, apologizing for leaving them too soon and expressing hope to see them in the next world. Her spirit became bound to her Ghost Diary after death. Years later, when her family returned to her hometown, her daughter discovered the diary in the old school building. Her spirit haunted the diary and occasionally appeared to assist her children and their friends in sealing ghosts, often by possessing Momoko Koigakubo's body to communicate and offer guidance directly. Through these possessions, she provided instructions on trapping various ghosts, including Kutabe and a piano ghost. She spoke to Momoko while Momoko was in the spirit world and offered Satsuki words of encouragement during a difficult confrontation. After all the ghosts documented in her diary were returned to spiritual sleep by Satsuki and her friends, the diary's contents vanished. This release allowed her spirit to move on from the earthly plane. Her family later attended her second memorial service. Her legacy continued through her daughter Satsuki, who inherited her physical appearance, artistic skills, and spiritual responsibilities. Analyses suggest that her method of spiritual confinement created a cyclical burden, as the imperfect seals required future generations to repeatedly re-seal the same spirits, implying her spiritual influence might persist indefinitely. Her favorite flower was the daffodil.
