Description
Tony Stark operates as the founding leader of the superhero team from Avengers Tower, where he conducts technological research, including investigations into Hydra's Emerald Rain Project. His initial encounter with Makoto, a genetically modified teenager escaping Hydra, begins with distrust. However, he agrees to rescue Makoto's friends in exchange for intelligence on Hydra's base, detaining Makoto at the tower during the initial operation.

During the assault on the Hydra base, he battles Red Skull, who uses advanced nanomachine armor. Recognizing the armor's remote-control vulnerability, he coordinates with Makoto to infiltrate the facility, disable Hydra's systems, free prisoners, and deactivate the nanotechnology. He rescues the teenagers Makoto, Adi, and Chloe from the base's self-destruction sequence, though Bruno appears to perish. Later, he participates in transferring Red Skull to the Raft prison, an event interrupted by the Winter Soldier. Observing the rescued teens' determination, particularly Makoto's desire to become a hero, he and the Avengers decide to train them.

He oversees the trainees' development, though they initially perceive his training methods as insufficiently rigorous. When the trainees independently attempt heroics in New York City, they protect school children during an attack by Ares on Avengers Tower. He aids in repelling Ares alongside Hulk and Captain Marvel. Following this, he provides the trainees with specialized Visco gauntlets, enabling them to deploy personalized weapons and battle armor, formalizing their team identity as the Future Avengers.

His past as a weapons manufacturer becomes relevant when Ezekiel Stane, son of the Iron Monger, challenges him. The Future Avengers learn of this history, causing distress for Adi. During Stane's attack using unmanned Iron Monger suits, he confronts Stane directly while coordinating civilian protection. He openly acknowledges guilt over past weapons development but emphasizes his commitment to moving beyond those mistakes, ultimately defeating Stane. He later reassures Adi that a troubled past doesn't preclude becoming a hero.

He supports the Future Avengers' training in various contexts. He arranges for Thor to take them to the hidden city of K'un-L'un after its elders request an audience regarding information pertinent to the Avengers. There, Iron Fist conducts their training under Thor's request. The elders share a vision interpreted as relating to the Emerald Rain Project and the Future Avengers' potential. He remains involved in ongoing efforts to understand the Project's connection to Makoto and emerging threats from groups like the Masters of Evil.
