Description
Earwig's Mother arrives at St. Morwald's Home for Children on a motorcycle, fleeing pursuit by a yellow car armed with snapping mechanical pinchers. During this chase, she uses magic, transforming a lock of her thick, curly red-orange hair into worms to blind her pursuers and escape. This pursuit stems from conflict with twelve other witches in her coven. She abandons her infant daughter, Earwig, on the orphanage doorstep with a handwritten note: "Got 12 other witches all chasing me. I'll be back for her when I've shook them off. It may take years. Her name is Earwig." Her abandonment is framed as protection.

Previously, she was lead vocalist and guitarist for the rock band "Earwig," alongside drummer Bella Yaga and pianist Mandrake. The band's history surfaces through records and cassette tapes found in Bella Yaga's house. A potential romantic or familial connection between her and Mandrake is implied through their musical collaborations and the band sharing her daughter's name. Her singing career continued after the band, cited as a reason for her prolonged absence from Earwig. The story suggests she left Earwig specifically with Bella Yaga for safeguarding while pursuing this career. Earwig later interprets this absence as a sacrifice for her safety.

She reappears unexpectedly during a Christmas gathering at Bella Yaga's house, reuniting with her former bandmates and daughter. This scene clarifies some past connections but leaves the witch conflict and her precise relationship with Mandrake unresolved. Her thick, curly red-orange hair remains consistent. Her onscreen presence is minimal, yet her actions drive Earwig's motivations and the story's exploration of family.
