Description
Earwig's mother is a strikingly beautiful witch with thick, curly red hair and a lovely voice. Her defining trait is a strong willfulness. She flees pursuit by twelve other witches in a yellow car equipped with mechanical pincers, escaping via motorcycle with her infant daughter, Earwig, swaddled against her chest. To thwart her pursuers, she transforms a lock of her hair into worms, obscuring their windshield. She leaves Earwig at St. Morwald's Home for Children, attaching a note to the blanket: "Got 12 other witches all chasing me. I'll be back for her when I've shook them off. It may take years. Her name is Earwig." This departure suggests her violation of an unspecified Witch Code necessitates separating from her child for protection, linked to her desire for independence or becoming a mother.

Previously, she was the lead singer of the band "Earwig," which included witches Bella Yaga on drums and Mandrake on piano. Her abrupt departure from both the band and the coven created lasting tension between Bella Yaga and Mandrake, hinting at a past romantic connection between her and Mandrake, and leaving a significant rift within the group. She returns unexpectedly during a Christmas gathering at Mandrake's house, where Earwig now resides, arriving at the doorstep for a reunion with her daughter and former bandmates.
