Suzumi Mikado commands the Mikado-style Aiki-jujutsu dojo from her home, serving as its matriarch and strict instructor. She demands discipline, requiring her son Gao to address her as "sensei" during rigorous training sessions. Her dedication to tradition shapes Gao's development in both martial prowess and personal conduct.
Her family consists of husband Takashi Mikado, children Gao, the late Yota, and younger daughter Hanako, alongside her mother Hanae Juumonji. Suzumi's interactions with Gao reveal complexity, notably when she grants him access to the significant card "Sun Fist, Sunshine Impact," originally entrusted by Yota. This card proved vital for Gao's victory over Genma Todoroki in the ABC Cup finals, simultaneously aiding Genma's grasp of the Mighty Sun Fighter's ethos.
Suzumi possesses a hot-blooded temperament, sometimes exceeding Gao's intensity. This flares during tense moments, such as nearly confronting a customs officer over passport issues until restrained by Gao and Hanako. Her judgment occasionally raises questions, exemplified by welcoming Ikazuchi—formerly Gao's rival—into their home. This act, however, contributed to Ikazuchi's redemption, demonstrating her ability to perceive underlying goodness.
Despite lacking Buddyfight powers, Suzumi displays remarkable combat skill. She dismounted Doai from his flying core gadget during a Disaster Force-induced rage, snapping him back to awareness with a single strike. She also precisely subdued Ikazuchi through martial technique when he mistakenly attacked her.
Suzumi temporarily left the family to teach martial arts in America. She later returned during Future Card Buddyfight 100. Takashi managed Gao's training during her absence, though his approach proved less rigorous.
Culinary traditions hold importance in the Mikado household. Suzumi is a competent cook, yet her mother Hanae earns greater renown for exceptional culinary skills universally praised by those who experience them.
