Muta is a flying squirrel-like creature with brown fur and distinctive red spiked hair partially tied into a low ponytail. As the primary aerial transporter for the Sage of the Garden of Clouds, Muta carries him through the skies. During one flight, Muta repeatedly cautions the Sage against dropping a precious egg containing Houou—a phoenix-like being vital for global warmth and peace. Despite these warnings, the Sage accidentally drops the egg into the Garden of Rainbows.

Muta joins the Sage to recover the lost Houou egg. After it hatches, the young bird Hinata is discovered by Hikari. Muta and the Sage track Hinata to the human world, where Muta exhibits strong protective instincts toward the fledgling. Emphasizing shared duty with the Sage to raise Houou to maturity, Muta pledges to defend Hinata at all costs, including their own life.

When antagonists Freezen and Frozen assault the Garden of Clouds to capture Hinata and freeze it, Muta resists actively. At a pivotal battle moment, Muta intervenes to rescue Luminous (Hikari's transformed state) and Hinata from an attack, physically evacuating them from danger to aid broader protection efforts.

Muta approaches responsibilities with unwavering seriousness, particularly concerning Houou’s safeguarding and upbringing. This dedication often translates into persistent reminders or warnings to the Sage, who finds them bothersome, creating a dynamic of light antagonism rooted in Muta’s vigilant commitment to their duties.
