Description
Lua (Rūa) is a Dutch rabbit Jewelpet with black fur covering her body, contrasting with a white face and chest fluff. Her inner ears are purple. Two distinct hot pink heart patterns mark her appearance: one sits below her left eye and another adorns her left leg. Blue apatite jewels form her eyes, signifying her connection to truth. She accessorizes with an indigo butterfly hair clip near her left ear and an indigo rose garland around her neck.
Her personality blends sharp-tongued sarcasm, often aimed at Ruby, with deep-seated insecurity and manipulative tendencies. This stems from her history as a Jewel Land mentor abandoned by her first human partner, Lady Diana, who left the Jewel Palace to marry Momona's cousin. This abandonment inflicted lasting emotional scars and a profound fear of being left behind again. To cope, Lua secretly allied with the antagonist Joker (later revealed as Lady Rector) and employed dark magic to reanimate Lady Diana’s discarded doll, implanting false memories to create Lillian as her new partner. Lua then became Lillian’s mentor, fiercely determined to mold her into Jewel Land's "Top Lady." This ambition served both to validate Lua herself and to ensure Lillian would never abandon her.
Throughout *Lady Jewelpet*, Lua's obsession drives her actions. She utilizes "Tap and Magic" spells via a Jewel Pad to sabotage rivals like Ruby and Momona, though her magic frequently spirals out of control. Notable instances include summoning a knight monster to disrupt a Halloween party and conjuring a prince to manipulate a competition's outcome. Despite her cynical exterior, Lua exhibits genuine loyalty and affection toward Lillian, often seeking comfort by having Lillian scratch behind her ears. Her internal conflict intensifies when Lillian questions their relationship, forcing Lua to confront her objectification of Lillian as a "doll" and her own selfish motives. This confrontation sparks Lua’s gradual shift toward supporting Lillian’s autonomy, culminating in her acceptance of Lillian’s decision to use blue apatite instead of a diamond for her final test.
In *Jewelpet Magical Change*, Lua partners with the human girl Laura. Her primary objective shifts to achieving human form, leading her to repeatedly attempt stealing a transformation pendant from Airi. This ambition underscores her persistent insecurity and desire for control. However, her strong bond with Laura eventually enables her transformation in Episode 23. By the series’ conclusion, Lua evolves further, prioritizing the stability of Jewel Land and earning the role of its queen, effectively succeeding Jewelina.
Lua’s magical abilities center on truth-revelation and emotional manipulation, consistent with her blue apatite jewel. Her spells compel humans to acknowledge their mistakes or strengthen bonds between individuals. She is also proficient in non-magical arts like singing, dancing, and piano. However, her use of the forbidden "Tap and Magic" requires a magic key and carries significant risks, as it frequently backfires or goes berserk.
