OVA
Description
Misty Mei is a supporting antagonist in the anime Jiburiru: Second Coming, which is the second OVA entry in the Djibril the Devil Angel series. She originates as the corrupted alter ego of Meimi Otonashi, a female classmate of the protagonist Naoto Jinno. Meimi harbors jealousy toward Rika Manabe after she witnesses Naoto confess his love to Rika, and the devil Asmodeus exploits this resentment to transform her into Misty Mei. In her transformed state, Misty Mei appears as a gothic lolita figure with black bat wings, a design that distinguishes her from the angelic Devil Angels of the series. Her role in the story is primarily that of a villainess who acts on behalf of the demons, using her power to kidnap Rika and disrupt the relationship between Naoto and Rika. This abduction creates the crisis that forces the creation of a new Devil Angel, Hikari Jinno, to rescue Rika. Later in Second Coming, the demon Rococo attacks Meimi specifically to separate the power of Misty Mei from her body, indicating that the Misty Mei persona is a distinct magical entity that can be extracted. Throughout the series, Misty Mei remains unable to achieve a true Djibril form or identity, and attempts to befriend her in the original games do not change her appearance or nature. Her motivation is driven by jealousy and the manipulative influence of the demons, and she functions as an obstacle that tests the resolve of the heroes. Her key relationships include her human identity as Meimi Otonashi, her rivalry with Rika Manabe, and her role as a tool of the demons Asmodeus and Rococo. While her personal development is limited, the separation of her power suggests a possible path toward redemption or neutralization. Her abilities include the magical power inherent to Misty Mei, which allows her to kidnap others and summon monsters, though specific named techniques are not detailed in the anime.
