Description
Avô, Victor Frankenstein's father and Emily's grandfather, is a wise, elderly blind man living in a secluded cabin. Before the story's events, he cautioned his son Victor against dangerous scientific pursuits, foreshadowing the coming tragedy. His blindness allows him to perceive the true nature of Frankenstein's monster beyond its physical form. When the creature finds their cabin, Avô and his granddaughter Emily befriend it, recognizing its longing for companionship and acceptance; they name it "Franken," demonstrating Avô's compassion. After a forest fire kills Emily's mother, Franken saves Avô from the flames. Avô later clarifies to Emily that Franken caused neither her mother's death nor Philip's accidental death, correcting Victor's mistaken assumptions and serving as a voice of truth. Following the deaths of Victor and Franken, Avô becomes Emily's guardian. The film ends with them living together as Inspector Bellbeau visits Franken's grave.
